See below for a list of shells that I've have the opportunity to work on and inspect.
It’s just a pure listing of shell weights (bare shells, without any hardware mounted on) that may be informative for some… please keep in mind:
The sound of an assembled drum depends on many more factors than just the shell weight:
- age (crystalline structure changes with time. A new drum shell will never sound like a 80 years old one!)
- density & hardness (production method: rolling / spinning / deep-drawing / casting)
- shell form (bearing edges, reinforcement beads, ecc)
- mounted hardware (type, weight, lugs number & placement,..)
- player / room
